Patient of the Week
This week’s patient is Tina, a very lucky female Brisbane short – necked turtle.
Tina was admitted to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital following a vehicle hit. She suffered fractures to her shell as well as some soft tissue damage which required repair.
Tina is a very lucky patient to survive the vehicle hit and following x-rays it was discovered that she is carrying seventeen eggs! So that is potentially eighteen survivors in one!
If you come across injured wildlife on the roads, please be sure to get the patient to our Wildlife Hospital or closest veterinarian as soon as possible.
There are 3 things you must always remember to protect yourself and the animal:
- Keep the patient dark, warm and quiet
- Always record the exact location where animal was found, as it is essential for the patients survival that they are returned to the same place once recovered
- If you don’t feel comfortable picking up the animal yourself please call a wildlife rescuer, you can find contact details on our website savingyourwildlife.org.au/contact
