Patient of the Week
This week’s Patient of the Week is a precious little koala joey named Robbie.
Robbie was admitted to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital last week following a lengthy rescue operation by some very patient wildlife carers. A member of the public noticed that the joey’s mum Merindah was sitting low in a tree and appeared injured. It was a two day effort from dedicated wildlife carers to catch the koalas so that they could be assessed by a veterinarian.
Sadly Merindah had irreparable spinal injuries and required euthanasia leaving poor little Robbie an orphan. The joey was also injured; she had a collapsed lung which was repaired by one of our veterinarians. We can’t be certain how they sustained these injuries, but it was likely to be a tree fall.
This beautiful little joey is doing well and she will now spend the next eight months (at least), being cared for until she can be released back into the wild.
