You may remember Luca the Koala, from the Patient of the Week story three weeks ago.
Following a vehicle hit, Luca sustained multiple wounds and abrasions to his body as well as a severely crushed thumb. Luca’s injuries received immediate treatment and attention from our dedicated veterinary team and his wounds were successfully administrated but unfortunately his thumb was too critically injured and required amputation.
Luca is still receiving ongoing treatment whilst recovering in the Wildlife Hospital. Unfortunately Luca has not yet recovered enough to be relocated to our purpose built Koala Rehabilitation Facility but he is expected to be moved in due time where he will continue rehabilitation until he has made a full recovery.
Slowly, Luca is getting used to living without one of his thumbs and is already able to climb small heights and move around his enclosure with better ease.
It is a long rehabilitation journey ahead of him, but he is improving more and more each day and will hopefully be fully recovered and ready to be released back into the wild in the upcoming months.
