Gilbert the Koala
Check out this footage of our dedicated veterinary team examining and treating our Patient of the Week Gilbert!
Gilbert is an extremely handsome male koala, he was admitted to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital following a vehicle hit and is suffering from internal bleeding. Thanks to being rescued and treated Gilbert is lucky to be alive and is slowly recovering from his injuries.
Gilbert is receiving fluid therapy and pain relief along with other treatments and lots of TLC. Sadly our Queensland koalas are listed as a vulnerable species and face many obstacles in the wild including disease, habitat destruction vehicle hits and domestic animal attacks. You can help koalas like Gilbert by slowing down on the roads in koala habitat areas especially at dusk and dawn when they are most likely to be on the move. Please also watch out for ‘Koalas cross here” signs, as many koalas are hit by cars in very close proximity to these warning signs.
